Calls and Competitions: SBRI

The Department of Health’s pilot SBRI competition on Healthcare Associated Infections is now open through the NIHR Invention for Innovation (i4i) Programme, with two topics:

  1. Hand Hygiene

  2. Pathogen detection in the hospital environment

On Topic 1, we are looking for technologies for improving hand hygiene effectiveness, compliance or both. On Topic 2, we are looking for a test for product residue that gives rapid results to facilitate immediate corrective action yet is simple enough to be performed on the ward without the need for recourse to a laboratory.

The following dates have been set as deadlines:

Competition 1
Submission Deadline 24 November 2008, noon
Declaration and Signatures deadline 1 December 2008, 5 pm
Submission Outcome 22 December 2008

This competition complements other current activities in the area of Health Care Associated Infections. For details of this see the Context document (available for download from this site).

These are opportunities requiring a high degree of innovation and are an opportunity not only to gain revenue to fund technology development, but also to develop the relationship with a key long-term potential customer.
