Funded projects – Where to find information

Information about the NIHR programmes and projects funded through the Central Commissioning Facility is stored on UK PubMed Central. This information is updated quarterly.

UK PubMed Central (UKPMC) is a free online resource offering access to information sources for biomedical and health researchers. Developed by the British Library, UKPMC is supported with funding from the Arthritis Research Campaign, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, the Chief Scientist Office (Scotland), the Department of Health/NIHR, the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.

For an idea of numbers of projects and programmes we have funded in each competition before going through to UKPMC, please download:

UKPMC search tips

Please click here to access the information on UKPMC in a new window.

Select NIHR (DH) from list of funders (this is not essential, but will help ensure all records retrieved are from NIHR-funded programmes).

Type the following search term into the Grant ID box:

  • To search projects funded under Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB)
  • To search Programme Grants for Applied Research
  • To search RISC projects (Research for Innovation, Speculation & Creativity)
  • To search i4i (Invention for Innovation), which can be further refined to:
    • i4i Stream 1 projects
    • i4i Stream 3 projects

Alternatively, projects can be searched for by principal investigator (PI) name, keyword, project title or institution.

Results can be downloaded directly or sent by email in Excel format.

The archive link to RfPB projects can still be accessed:
