Meet the Director of the Research for Patient Benefit Programme

Professor Celia Davies

Celia Davies is currently Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and is also Professor Emerita of Health Care at The Open University. She is a sociologist whose career has involved much contract research for funding bodies including the Department of Health and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as well as for voluntary organisations. She is particularly known for her studies of the nursing profession, her writings on health policy and on the regulation of the health professions. She has also published academic work and carried out consultancy patient and public engagement. Her most recent book (with M. Wetherell and E. Barnett) is Citizens at the Centre: deliberative participation in health care decisions (Policy Press 2006). She was granted an honorary degree from City University in 2007 and awarded a DLitt from the University of Warwick in 2008.
