NIHR Senior Investigators: announcing the second annual round of competition

We are pleased to announce the second annual round of NIHR Senior Investigator competition. Applications from NIHR’s most leading researchers will be welcomed. For details of who is eligible and in order to apply firstly register for the secure extranet. Once registered you will be able log into our secure extranet via the log in page using the username and password specified during your registration. Once logged in further information and application forms can be obtained by selecting the "Senior investigator" link in the left hand menu. The NIHR Senior Investigator competition deadline will be the 28th July 2008 at 4pm.

NIHR Senior Investigators are the key individuals who are making the most outstanding contribution to research essential for decision-making in health and in social care.

NIHR Senior Investigators will be members of the NIHR College and will receive an annual award of £15,000 a year as a personal discretionary fund. Formation of the college will reward the most outstanding researchers who are conducting NIHR and Department of Health Policy Research Programme-funded research.

These appointments will:

  • be a source of prestige, providing an incentive for Investigators to achieve this status
  • acknowledge senior researchers and their work, enhancing esteem for applied clinical research
  • reward internationally prominent people-focused health and social care researchers
  • provide a focus for the NIHR Faculty
  • provide visible leadership in NIHR by forming the NIHR College
  • the NIHR College will be a key source of advice to the Director of the NIHR

In the first annual round of open competition 100 successful applicants were selected by an international panel of judges, Chaired by Professor Ruth Barrington.
