Patient and Public Involvement Quiz

The following quiz was created by PPI members from the RfPB committees.

These extracts all represent Patient and Public Involvement in the context of research proposals. Which category of involvement would you put them in?

Question 1:
"We plan a steering group for the project with four patient representatives as equal members of the research team."    

Question 2:
"In the first ... phase of the study ten [patients] and five carers will be invited to participate in semi-structured interviews. They will be asked their thoughts and perceptions of the [intervention]. Results from the first phase of the study will influence the second phase, a randomised controlled trial."    

Question 3:
"Individual service users who have been referred ... via this and other routes will be interviewed regarding their experiences."    

Question 4:
"We have used existing patient participation groups ... to present our research ideas described in this protocol. We have obtained input from these groups to refine the detail of the protocol.."    

Question 5:
"Our patients agreed with us that the study would deliver important information and that the research was timely and important."    

Question 6:
"A Steering Committee sub-group comprised solely of users and carers supported by researchers will be asked to direct planning of methods and content whereby user and carer views of service delivery will be obtained and evaluated."    

Question 7:
"Two groups of service users will be recruited in the development stage of the project. In the first study, service users who have a history of x will be asked to comment on the 'influences' that supported and undermined [them]."
